On July 6, 1940, Randolph married Rose Cannuli, who was born on November 7, 1920. Their time together was short but filled with love and devotion before the outbreak of war changed their lives forever.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Randolph <\/span>enlisted <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>United <\/span>States <\/span>Army <\/span>on <\/span>April <\/span>14, <\/span>1943, <\/span>at <\/span>Camp <\/span>Mackall, <\/span>North <\/span>Carolina, <\/span>serving <\/span>under <\/span>Lt. <\/span>Colonel <\/span>Paul <\/span>F. <\/span>Oswald. <\/span><\/p>\n 680th GFAB Patch<\/p><\/div>\n He <\/span>was <\/span>assigned <\/span>to <\/span>Battery <\/span>B <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>680th <\/span>Glider <\/span>Field <\/span>Artillery <\/span>Battalion, <\/span>part <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>17th <\/span>Airborne <\/span>Division. <\/span>After <\/span>training <\/span>in <\/span>several <\/span>locations, <\/span>including <\/span>the <\/span>Tennessee <\/span>Maneuver <\/span>Area <\/span>and <\/span>Camp <\/span>Forrest, <\/span>Tennessee, <\/span>his <\/span>unit <\/span>shipped <\/span>out <\/span>from <\/span>the <\/span>Boston <\/span>Port <\/span>of <\/span>Embarkation <\/span>on <\/span>August <\/span>20, <\/span>1944, <\/span>aboard <\/span>the <\/span>USS <\/span>Wakefield<\/span><\/em>, <\/span>arriving <\/span>in <\/span>Liverpool, <\/span>England, <\/span>on <\/span>August <\/span>28.<\/span> Men of the 680th GFAB, firing a few minutes after landing at Wesel<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Grave 1945<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n He <\/span>was <\/span>killed <\/span>in <\/span>action <\/span>on <\/span>March <\/span>24, <\/span>1945, <\/span>in <\/span>Fl\u00fcren, <\/span>Germany, <\/span>during <\/span>Operation <\/span>Varsity<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>the <\/span>largest <\/span>airborne <\/span>operation <\/span>conducted <\/span>on <\/span>a <\/span>single <\/span>day <\/span>and <\/span>in <\/span>one <\/span>location <\/span>during <\/span>World <\/span>War <\/span>II. <\/span>Randolph <\/span>was <\/span>initially <\/span>buried <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>Netherlands <\/span>American <\/span>Cemetery <\/span>in <\/span>Margraten (<\/span>Plot <\/span>W, <\/span>Row <\/span>9, <\/span>Grave <\/span>208) <\/span>and <\/span>later <\/span>reinterred <\/span>on <\/span>April <\/span>15, <\/span>1948, <\/span>in <\/span>Plot <\/span>E, <\/span>Row <\/span>19, <\/span>Grave <\/span>15<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pvt. Thomas A. Cannuli<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n Thomas A Cannuli is buried or memorialized at Plot F Row 3 Grave 21, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy<\/p><\/div>\n Rose\u2019s brother, Pvt. Thomas A. Cannuli, also gave his life during World War II. He served with the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, and was killed in action in Italy on July 30, 1943. He was the first Italian-American from Geneva, NY, to fall in the war. In recognition of his sacrifice, the Thomas A. Cannuli Veterans Post #23 was named in his honor. He is buried at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy, in Plot F, Row 3, Grave 21.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n .<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Randolph R. <\/span>Following Randolph\u2019s death, Rose eventually remarried. On September 29, 1951, she wed Clayton Conley at Sampson, New York, and together they made their home in Jamestown, North Dakota. Rose dedicated much of her life to community service, working over 20 years at Sunshine Laundromat and volunteering for 38 years at Central Dakota Village, where she enthusiastically called bingo and assisted with special events. Clayton, her second husband, co-owned Conley Implement and worked as a building contractor until his retirement in 1986. He passed away on December 14, 2009.
